SIA Group continues steady path to recovery

SIA Group (SIA) said yesterday there was cause to be positive about a recovery [in the industry] in the second half of the year from the global rollout of coronavirus vaccines. Read More » "The growing pace of vaccinations around the world, especially in key markets for the SIA Group, supports cautious optimism for a measured recovery in the demand for air travel in the second half of 2021," the company said in its February traffic report published yesterday. The airline group - Singapore Airlines, SilkAir and LCC Scoot – remained steadfast in its forecast that capacity would climb to about 26% of pre-COVID-19 levels by May. The group said international air passenger demand continued to be "severely dampened" in February with passenger numbers down 96.9%, at 67,700, compared with 2.2 million in the same month a year ago. Capacity, or available seat kilometres (ASK), was 75.6% lower than February 2020.
