The AirAsia Group expects narrow-body aircraft growth to dip in 2020 to 12 aircraft. This is sandwiched between 2019 growth of 18 aircraft and a planned addition of 33 aircraft in 2021. The group expects to end 2019 with 244 narrow-body aircraft and 256 aircraft next year. It plans to cross the 300 aircraft mark in 2022, reach 400 in 2025 and 500 in 2028.

AirAsia India will continue to be the primary source of capacity growth. The group plans to add seven narrow-bodies in India next year after delivering nine airplanes into the fleet this year.

AirAsia Japan and Indonesia AirAsia each will receive three more aircraft and Philippines AirAsia two. Thai AirAsia will reduce its fleet by three airplanes.

The group did not specify the breakdown between the A320 and its newer and larger A321s. It said its fuel is 73% hedged at US$60.22 per barrel in 2020.
