Three largest North American airlines oppose increased Mainland carriers’ flights to U.S.

Airlines for America, a trade group whose members include American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines as well as several industry unions have written to the U.S. government regulator to request a pause in the increase to 50 flights a week that can be operated by Chinese carriers into the U.S. because of the “anti-competitive policies of the Chinese government”, Reuters Agency reports. Read More » DoT also has increased the frequency of U.S. airlines’ flights to China to 50 a week but the carriers are not using all of their allocations. The letter cited “the advantage Chinese airlines receive by continuing to access Russian airspace, while U.S. carriers have stopped flying through Russian air space since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine”. Reuters said the U.S. airlines are concerned DoT could increase or even double the weekly flights Chinese carriers are permitted to fly to the U.S. Pre-pandemic, round-trip passenger flights exceeded 150 a week.
