Asia-Pacific region records highest passenger traffic worldwide in January

Read More » Demand, measured in revenue passenger kilometers (RPKs), increased 31.8% in the reported month compared with January 2023 It also was almost double the global average of 16.6%. The region’s capacity was higher by 26.2% and passenger load factor grew 3.2%, to 80.8%. Asia-Pacific airlines international traffic increased 45.4% year-on-year for the month and capacity climbed 48.1%, IATA said, but the region’s international load factor dipped 1.5 percentage points to 82.6%, it added. “The recovery in major international routes to and from the Asia-Pacific is still lagging, but routes such as Asia-Middle East have exceeded pre-pandemic levels,” IATA reports. China led domestic traffic expansion across the region with a 33.2% gain over the same 31 days in the previous year.
