All Nippon Airways Green Jet takes off

All Nippon Airways (ANA) said the first of two 787s, featuring a green leaf and water motifs livery and the ANA Future Promise logo on their fuselages, has begun flying Tokyo Haneda-San Francisco today. Read More » The 787-9, registration JA871A, will operate on international routes and the second 787-8, registration JA874A, will be deployed on ANA’s domestic network. The two wide-bodies have had a special material, developed by Nikon Corporation, applied to their fuselage that has a “shark skin effect”, the airline said. ANA will study the impact of the Nikon Corporation material on air resistance and emissions reductions. “Our goal is to create a more sustainable society, helping our local communities and enhancing corporate value. We have dedicated this aircraft to promoting these efforts,” ANA CEO, Shinichi Inoue, said. In addition to the livery, the aircraft’s inflight cabin service has a sustainability theme with vegan leather headrest covers, environmentally friendly materials for inflight service and cabin crew aprons featuring the green leaf and water motifs.
