Shanghai lockdown reduces China Eastern Airlines domestic traffic by 90.8%

China Eastern Airlines (CEA) carried 853,290 passengers on its domestic network in April, down 90.8% from the 9.3 million in-country passengers transported in the same month in 2021. Read More » The April result, largely due to a city-wide lockdown instigated to defeat a new COVID outbreak, was 65.6% below the 2.5 million domestic passengers CEA flew in March. Domestic passenger load factor for the 30 days was 58.1%, against 75.2% in April 2021 and 60% in March this year. The SkyTeam alliance member repeated its assessment made in previous monthly traffic reports that the COVID-19 pandemic still had a “significant impact” on its air transportation business and great uncertainty remained about the extent and impact of the pandemic. The CEA fleet was unchanged at 751 aircraft at April 30.
