New CEO Augustus Tang returns to carrier from HAECO. Read More »

His job is in his name. Augustus Tang became Cathay Pacific CEO on August 19 after the resignation of Rupert Hogg in the fallout of heightened Chinese scrutiny of Cathay’s safety. Tang will need to win back the regulator. Coincidentally, the name Augustus is derived from the Latin augere, meaning “to increase”.

Hogg resigned along with chief customer and operating officer, Paul Loo, on August 16. Replacing Loo is Ronald Lam, who had only recently moved from Cathay to HK Express as CEO. Replacing Lam at HK Express is Swire Pacific executive, Mandy Ng, who worked on the HK Express acquisition and transition. She previously worked at Cathay.

Tang left Cathay last decade for HAECO. Aged 60, he was expected to soon retire from the Hong Kong MRO. Interim HAECO CEO is Summit Chan, previously the head of Taikoo (Xiamen) Aircraft Engineering Company (TAECO), a subsidiary of HAECO.
