Qantas group domestic capacity falls to 40% of pre-COVID-19 levels

Qantas Group CEO, Alan Joyce, has told employees domestic capacity at Qantas and Jetstar airlines had fallen to about 40% of pre-COVID-19 levels after stay-at-home orders in three Australian states hit passenger demand, local media reported, citing a memo to staff. Read More » The airline group had been operating about 90% of pre-COVID-19 domestic capacity at the start of July. Should restrictions be lifted as scheduled, Joyce said Qantas local capacity would be at 60% by August and between 80% and 90% in September and October. Joyce said the airline was "not at the point" of requiring staff to be stood down without pay, but he did not rule out such an outcome if multiple states kept their borders closed for extended periods.

In other Australian news, Regional Express is temporarily suspending or reducing flights to some destinations in five Australian states due to stay-at-home orders.
